Fall Races

Some of our target races are coming up! Below are three important things to do if you're ready to race -

  1. USA Triathlon Membership

  2. Two race options (you can do both)

  3. Training Schedule

  4. Using Club Bikes

USA Triathlon Membership

Step one to doing any race is getting a USA Triathlon Membership. This is required for any race you do and also gets you some membership perks. Also noteworthy is that if you get a membership as a youth it will not expire until you turn 18. And, as a member of this club you get a free membership.

What to do

  1. Go to https://www.usatriathlon.org/membership

  2. Click on Purchase a Membership

  3. Create a Login (if you prefer, the parent can create a login and create a family under which they can register multiple)

  4. You'll have to verify your email address

  5. Click "Become a Member" and follow the many prompts

  6. When asked, choose "Youth and Junior Digital Membership" as your membership type

  7. Make sure you search for and select "Youth Triathlon Club of Orange County" as your club. There is also a high school program option, and if you're in high school you should choose that.

  8. When it gets to the payment page, use code YouthTriOC

  9. Once complete, you can always find your membership number on the USA Triathlon web site

A note about free races

First, I'm thankful to Cal Tri for allowing youth to race in all of their races for free.

But please, do not ever sign up for a race if you aren't fully committed to doing it. For one, they will not continue to put on free youth races if they keep getting empty sign-ups. There is some cost that goes into each registration (bib, timing chip, cap, shirt) so you not even racing makes all that cost go for nothing. But also, if they start seeing that OC Youth Tri Club sign-ups go unused, they may be prompted to not allow our club to sign-up anymore.

Training Schedule

In order to ensure that you'll finish your race and also do your best, more regular training is recommended. I have created a training schedule and posted it at the link below for you to view. I will update this schedule as time goes by.

Please note that there are three tabs at the bottom of the schedule. One is for if you intend to race both LA and Newport, one is for just LA, and one is for only Newport. Getting you to be your best on race day involves putting certain practices in certain places, so that's why these differ.

You are welcome to modify the schedule to suit your availability. Just try to get as many of the elements in per week as you can.

Using Club Bikes

You are welcome to use one of the club bikes when you race. You can either take the bike after practice on the Monday prior, or I can bring the bike to the race for you. I will be at both of these races and I have the ability to bring a lot of bikes. We'll figure this all out as we get closer to the race, but please know that you have this option when signing up.
